The Story
โKalpasi โ called stone flower or lichen โ is the spice that makes Chettinad food taste unmistakably like Chettinad. It grows on rocks and trees in the dry belt of Tamil Nadu and has an earthy, slightly smoky depth with a hint of oakwood. Most commercial Chettinad masalas skip it or use so little it's undetectable. This blend centers it โ kalpasi, along with marathi mokku (dried flower of kapok tree) and dried vetiver root, in a ratio Savitha uses every week.โ

How to Use
Add 3-4 pieces directly to oil before other spices. Or grind with other spices for a paste. A little goes very far.
